The Trauma Informed Staff Support Programme (TrISSP) has been developed to support primary care organisations in embedding a compassionate, trauma-informed approach to staff wellbeing.
Building on the foundations of the Critical Incident Staff Support Programme (CrISSP), previously delivered by the West Yorkshire Staff Mental Health and Wellbeing Hub, this programme has been thoughtfully adapted for the unique pressures and environments within primary care.
Programme Overview
This training supports primary care leaders and staff to understand and respond effectively to trauma in the workplace. It provides a structured, supportive space to reflect, learn, and develop practical approaches to staff wellbeing following critical incidents or ongoing workplace pressures.
Participants will explore how to embed a trauma-informed model within their organisation, helping to create environments where staff feel supported, safe, and able to thrive.
Training Objectives
The programme aims to:
- Increase understanding of workplace trauma, including its impact on individuals and teams
- Explore tools and strategies to mitigate risk and support recovery
- Provide insight into what happens following traumatic incidents
- Create a safe space to reflect on self-care and personal resilience
- Develop skills to support colleagues following trauma or chronic stress
- Support organisations to embed trauma-informed approaches within existing structures
Approach and Delivery
The training will be delivered by experienced facilitators: Dr Kerry Hinsby and Amy Dunmall.
Both have extensive NHS experience and bring deep expertise in trauma-informed practice. Their approach combines:
- Advanced group facilitation and coaching skills
- Therapeutic understanding of trauma and stress
- Responsive delivery tailored to the needs of participants
Given the sensitive nature of the content, facilitators focus on creating a psychologically safe learning environment, adapting in real time to ensure the training remains accessible, supportive, and impactful.
Why This Matters
Primary care staff are increasingly exposed to:
- Chronic stress and high workloads
- Moral distress and emotional burden
- Cumulative and critical incident trauma
Previous delivery has highlighted high levels of burnout and work-related stress among participants. This programme is designed to sensitively address these challenges, helping teams move towards a more strategic, systemic approach to staff wellbeing.
Who Should Attend?
This programme is particularly suited to:
- Primary Care leaders
- Practice managers
- Clinical leads
- Workforce and wellbeing leads
- Anyone involved in supporting staff wellbeing
