Leadership, Operational and Workforce Development for Modern Primary Care

The Modular Practice Manager Programme is a 10-session blended learning programme across three main themes of Governance and Compliance, Workforce and People Management, and Leadership and Improvement. Sessions are available to individually book.

The programme is designed for current and aspiring Practice Managers, operational leads, senior administrators and those supporting the day-to-day running of general practice.

The programme brings together practical learning, expert facilitation and peer discussion to strengthen operational confidence, leadership capability and sustainable practice management across primary care.

Programme Overview

The programme will run from June to December 2026 and will include a blend of face-to-face full-day sessions and virtual bite-size sessions delivered via MS Teams.

Participants will explore key areas of practice management including information governance, finance, CQC preparation, employment law, employee relations, leadership, quality improvement, workflow redesign and managing performance.

Understanding Primary Care Finance & Ensuring Financial Robustness

This 1-day module will give you a comprehensive introduction to how GP practice finances work – the business model used and the implications of this, what the sources of income are and where the money gets spent. Practical advice will be given to help to budget and plan the long-term security of your practice finances anticipating the challenges that will be present in the coming years. An explanation will be provided of the various sections that make up the annual accounts produced for a practice along with information about the practicalities surrounding Partners joining or retiring from the Partnership. A very practical day’s training facilitated and delivered by a GP Business Manager with nearly 20 years’ experience in a large WY GP practice.

Information Governance & Confidentiality in Primary Care

Gain the knowledge required to effectively implement and manage confidentiality and information governance in a primary care setting. The workshop will cover all aspects of information governance and the requirements for primary care including policies, strategies and best practice. This workshop is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to confidently prepare for a Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection within primary care. It provides a clear understanding of the evolving CQC regulatory landscape, including the Single Assessment Framework (SAF), quality statements and evidence categories. Participants will explore what inspectors look for, assess their current level of readiness, and develop structured action plans to improve compliance, strengthen governance, and embed continuous quality improvement. The course also focuses on preparing teams, documentation and systems to ensure organisations can demonstrate high-quality, safe, and well-led care during inspections.
