GP Fellowships

Across Humber and North Yorkshire unique Fellowship offers were developed for GPs, with funding to support the delivery of programmes and the time participating, as well as funded mentor sessions. View video summary of HNY GP Fellowship offers here.

Currently we are awaiting funding decisions for future availability of these or any other GP fellowship opportunities.

Funding and Availability

In 2024 NHSE announced changes to the national fellowship funding, which funds the GP CATALYST programme for newly qualified GPs in our region. GPs in their first year of qualifying, and who CCT’d before 31st March 2024 were still eligible to access this. Funding also continued for any fellows already enrolled and on the 2-year programme.

GPs who would like to be kept up to date regarding any new funding offers, can register interest on the link below. Any new information will be shared when available:

Local funding decisions have yet to be made for any HNY fellowship offers in 2025, once anything is confirmed information will be distributed widely.

CATALYST - For Newly Qualified GPs (Next funded cohort TBC)

Catalyst

A 2-year programme delivered by Hull York Medical School at the University of Hull is available to all GPs within 12 months of qualifying (there are also limited places available for GPs who have qualified within the past 24 months). The programme provides a weekly educational session and will help build the experience, skills and confidence that will support future careers in primary care medicine. A bursary is available to support release for 1 session per week.

Educational sessions are currently on Wednesdays, one full day every two weeks (averaging 1 session per week). The next Cohort will begin in September 2024.

Catalyst is the HNY variation of the NHSE national GP fellowship offer.

Enhanced - For Newly Qualified GPs (Currently closed)

Enhanced Offer

A 2-year programme delivered by the HNY Primary Care Workforce & Training Hub. This programme offers a supported introduction to life as a qualified GP and is available to GPs that have qualified within the past 24 months. The enhanced offer would involve a weekly fellowship session and is available alongside Catalyst. The focus of the fellowship time can be planned to suit the GPs interest, for example, education, teaching and training, research, leadership, specialist clinical placements or project work. Each fellow will be assigned a Fellowship Facilitator available for guidance, and meet in small group sessions approximately every two months.

Funding to support this element of the programme is primarily targeted at practices that have been identified as being within under doctored areas across the Humber and North Yorkshire region (Hull, North East Lincolnshire, Withernsea, Bridlington, Hornsea and Scarborough). A bursary is available to support release for 1 session per week.

The Enhanced offer is a locally funded HNY initiative aimed at supporting recruitment in the hardest to recruit to areas.
