The application process for organisations within North East and Yorkshire to apply for the NHS England support to train advanced practitioners in 2025/26 has now opened until 28^th March 2025.

• You will be required to submit a job description and/or job plan for your trainee Advanced Practitioner(s) upon applying, to ensure your application is considered. Please note applications that are not completed in full or do not provide a JD/PS will be returned.

The North East Yorkshire Regional Faculty for Advancing Practice is undertaking an anonymous exercise to better understand how clinical salary support (CSS) / the training grant is used and gather examples of innovative practice. The aim is to listen and learn with a view to working out how we can more effectively assist you and your organisation with this aspect of having trainees in the future. We are keen to hear all your experiences, whether positive or more challenging, and welcome any suggestions you may have regarding what we could constructively offer.  Please be assured contributions cannot be identified and that this work is about looking to the future and developing a meaningful CSS based support offer for employers, so whilst most questions focus on understanding the current situation, the awareness they generate will be used as a springboard for Faculty based improvement work. NHS England in the North East and Yorkshire offer a service to facilitate the transfer of apprenticeship levy funds from levy paying employers to non-levy paying employers to pay for apprenticeship training in primary and community care.

Non-levy paying employers (such as GP practices, Dental practices, Care Homes, etc) can use these funds to cover 100% of apprenticeship training costs, rather than paying the 5% co-investment. We know that paying this co-investment is often a barrier to a small organisation in enrolling their staff on an apprenticeship and developing their workforce. GP practices are the biggest users of the service, often enrolling their healthcare assistants on the Nursing Associate or Nurse Degree apprenticeships.

Levy contributions made by levy paying organisations (such as NHS Trusts) expire after two years back to HM Treasury. By facilitating transfers, we can limit the amount that expires and reinvest that funding back into the North East and Yorkshire NHS system. In the current financial year to date, we have facilitated £6.5 Million worth of levy transfers enabling 600 apprentices to enrol on their programmes.

Developing First Contact Practitioner (FCP) roles as part of ARRS has been an area that has rapidly evolved over recent years.

On 3rd Dec 2024, in collaboration, Humber and North Yorkshire (HNY) ICB, the HNY Primary Care Workforce and Training Hub, and local primary care colleagues hosted a webinar for HNY PCNs/practices to facilitate sharing of best practice around supporting FCPs and similar roles.

The deadline for initial applications is 31^st January 2025 for Dietetics, Occupational Therapy and Paramedic Science. There is limited availability for Musculoskeletal Practitioners, so the deadline for MSK is 10^th January 2025, however, we will continue to take enquiries for this profession.

We are delighted to tell you about three new system leadership development programmes due to launch in January 2025

These programmes are specifically tailored to develop system leaders – so if you’re interested in working across the system, this is the programme for you.

To thrive as a system, there is an ongoing need to share talent by creating a system-wide, inclusive and co-ordinated talent management approach which is what we are aiming to provide.

These programmes are intended to encourage colleagues from across Humber and North Yorkshire to discover their own strengths and fulfil their ambitions of becoming future system leaders, with a key focus on addressing the lack of diversity we see from middle to senior management.

Each programme is designed to prepare participants for the next step of their career journey, equipping them with the skills to truly transform health and care across our system.

There are three programmes to share:

Programme 1: Leading from the middle 

• 12-month programme

• Aimed at those in a middle management role, who have had previous experience of management (3+ years) or have previously undertaken a management development programme

• Opportunity to enhance self-development through psychometric tools, career coaching and working with a senior sponsor

• Core learning – both face-to-face and online workshops (leading change and transformation, system theory, successful systems leadership, from analogue to digital, political astuteness, population health, effective decision making etc)

• 6-week placement

• Closes with a celebration event

Programme 2: Senior System Leaders

• 12-month programme

• Aimed at those ready to step into an executive role (existing senior leaders)

• Access to networking opportunities, peer-to-peer support and networking sessions

• Guest speaker sessions

• Masterclasses

• Career management support

Programme 3: Advancing international talent

• Specifically designed for internationally educated colleagues – people who have trained and worked in healthcare in another country and have since moved to Humber and North Yorkshire

• Career management support addressing the barriers people may face

• Focus on securing future roles and value of diverse lived experience to creating a health and care system that works for all

All three programme are available to colleagues across the system in all health and care organisations in Humber and North Yorkshire. We are excited to announce the launch of our updated Safe Surgeries e-learning course, designed to support GP practice staff in understanding and improving access to primary care for everyone in the community.

This free course is flexible, taking approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour to complete, and is suitable for all GP practice staff, particularly frontline reception staff and practice managers. It can also be included as part of the induction process for new staff. The course offers clear guidance on becoming a Safe Surgery and aligns with NHS England guidance on GP registration.

• Understanding inclusion health and barriers to accessing healthcare
• Guidance on registering patients, including information on NHSE guidance and best practice
• Supporting patients beyond registration and useful resources
